How much can we squeeze into one week?! Charlies birthday, Scouts birthday, and Christmas all rolled into one. Plus our first appointment with our fertility specialist :). I'm exhausted but happy to be on holidays. We had Charlies birthday at "Tree Top Adventures". She is quite the spider monkey so she loved it, as did her cousins and mummy Scout ;) I, on the other hand, was shaking like a leaf just two meters off the ground! And of course who do you think had to go first (?!) My arse has never looked bigger than it did in that harness and my quivering thighs were sore for two days afterwards. But it was worth it, seeing our big girl fly around those trees, fearless and having a ball :)So Scouts birthday was a little more low key, but a special day for both of us. Our original FS appointment had had to be rescheduled as the FS needed to be in surgery so we made the new appointment to be on Scout's birthday. I had the day off work, so after opening presents in the morning, we dropped our big girl at school, our little one in day care and headed for the city. We live in a rural town just outside the metropolitan area so it takes a good 90mins drive to get there. I was nervous as hell the whole way in. I don't know why but I have been scared about making this first leap into the world of making a baby "with assistance". I guess part of me was worried about us being judged for being a lesbians tcc. Fortunately my fears were totally unfounded.
Our FS was lovely. Interested in both of us and making us feel very comfortable. We thought that this appointment would just be about getting information, but it was all that and a whole lot more! Based on my history, the FS was concerned I may have endometriosis so she suggested either a laproscopy or ultrasound for tubal patency. I was happy for the u/s but less so for the laproscopy. So she sent us on our way with a bunch of referrals for u/s, bloodtests, counseling and registration with the ivf clinic. We wlaked out her door and straight across to the u/s clinic on the ogher side of the waiting room where we made the first of many appointments for the day.
The lady who greeted us was super friendly, working out cycle dates for the procedure, telling us what's involved and how to prepare. From there it was another short walk done the hall to the ivf clinic where they led us straight into a consult room with a patient liason administrator who signed us up and pretty much made all the rest of our appointments for us. I was totally unprepared for all this and just sat there absorbing the whirlwind of information offered to us by yet another amazingly welcoming professional. Luckily my wonderful partner-come-PA was there with phone in hand entering all the dates and times with much enthusiasm :).
Next, we needed to find the pathology for blood tests but the ivf clinic offered to do these for us too! We walked out of there amazed that so much had been organized in such a short period of time. Talk about a slick operation! I was stunned by how coordinated and easy the whole process was. But mostly how comfortable we were made to feel. We both left excited that the ball was rolling sooner than we'd expected! So now it's just a two week wait till day 6 of my next cycle for the ultrasound and the first of these many appointments we've made :)
On our way home from the city we stopped at the little cafe where we first met as a bit of a celebration and birthday lunch. Then back to pick up the girls and home to bake a birthday cake :) It was a lovely day for Scout's birthday and a bit of an early xmas present for both of us really! Apart from all that - Xmas was crazy. Saw my brother and Scout's sister for xmas eve, both her mum and dad's family for xmas day, and was woken by two very excited little girls wanting to open presents at 4am Xmas morning! Since then we have been in recovery mode. The girls go to visit their father for 3 weeks tomorrow so we took them to the movies to see 'Happy Feet 2' followed by fish and chips at the skate park. We also discovered nits in Charlies hair tonight so we've had heads wrapped in plastic bags and a ton of laundry before bed time. It wouldn't really be a good look sending the kids off to their father for holidays with headlice!
